Environmental Conservation Activities

Operating the Environmental Management System (ISO14001)

The IRISO Group has set up an environmental management system by following the ISO 14001 to conduct activities for environmental improvement.
The environmental management system is run on the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle mainly by a project management office that was set up at each manufacturing base. The departments of each manufacturing base follow the instructions of the project management office, create and implement annual plans, and report the activity results to the office. The office conducts internal audits to check the final results and validity of the plan, and the results are summarized and reported to the environmental manager. In addition, the validity of the plan is confirmed through an audit performed by an external organization. The following are the years when the manufacturing bases got ISO 14001 certified. Since they were certified, they have had external audits under ongoing basis.

Internal Audits

To verify the effectiveness of the environmental management system, we conduct “internal audits” at each site*.
*Head office/Kawasaki and all factories (domestic/overseas sales offices are excluded from the target sites). IRISO Engineering Co., Ltd. (currently our Hanamaki Factory), which joined our group in 2022, will be added to the list of domestic sites from the fiscal year ending March 2025, and the Akita Factory, which is scheduled to start operation in 2025, will be added to the list of domestic sites from the fiscal year ending March 2027 (currently not included in the target sites).

Our Environmental Conservation Practices

Our environmental policy was announced under the name of the company CEO both within and outside the company to declare that we are engaged in the following environmental conservation activities.

・Reduction of CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions (by promoting energy conservation)
・Effective use of recycled resources
・Running eco-friendly activities (compliance with environmental laws and regulations)

Details of our environmental conservation practices are given below.

Reduction of CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions (by promoting energy conservation)

Greenhouse gases mainly include carbon dioxide, methane, dinitrogen monoxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulfur fluoride. Greenhouse gases come from our production activities because we use electricity and automobiles. Greenhouse gases are a cause of global warming, and we are running the following activities for managing greenhouse gas emissions to stop global warming.

Measure Results
Solar panel installation One of our ways to reduce our electricity consumption is solar panel installations at our Ibaraki, Shanghai, and Nantong Plants.
In the fiscal year ending March 2024, the solar panels generated 1,601 MWh of electricity, preventing the emission of 954 tons of carbon dioxide.
Improve air-conditioner efficiency The air conditioners at the headquarters will be replaced between 2022 and 2025.
In so doing, we expect to reduce annual electricity consumption at the headquarters by 135 MWh.

Effective use of recycled resources

We promote the 3Rs (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) practices at all group bases both in Japan and outside Japan.
The results are presented below.

Measure Results
Cutting down on gold in connectors and using recycled materials ①By reviewing gold plating proportion, thickness, and processing part of connector pins, we have cut down on gold in production.
②By using recycled materials in the resin used for connector molds at a ratio that complies with laws and regulations, we have reduced plastic waste.
Separation of waste materials for reusing as valuable resources We do not dispose of materials such as copper scrap, gold plating, and waste products generated at all group sites both in Japan and outside Japan. We make effective use of them by sorting as valuable resources.
As a result, in the fiscal year ending March 2024, we were able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50.8 tons.
3Rs Practice The headquarters is fully engaged in daily 3Rs activities, the separation, reduction, reuse, and recycling of wastes.
Since 2008, we have been recognized by the City of Yokohama as an excellent company in the practice of 3Rs for our outstanding waste management practices.
We are continuously committed to our 3Rs practices.
Social Responsibility We run the following activities to work towards a better society.

  • 1. Neighborhood cleanup
  • To keep the roads around the company area clean, employees clean up the vicinity of the company on a daily basis.
  • 2. Donation of calendars we do not use.
  • At the end of the year, we distribute calendars we receive from our business partners to employees who request them. Instead of disposing of any unused calendars, we donate them to nursing homes.

Running eco-friendly activities(Compliance with environmental laws and regulations)

We run an array of eco-friendly activities in compliance with environmental laws and regulations. We manage wastes in accordance with the Waste Disposal and Public Cleansing Law, conduct quick and periodic inspections of air conditioners, testing equipment and others in accordance with the CFC Emission Control Law, and perform periodic measurements in compliance with the Noise Regulation Law.
